September 2009
Dear Parents:
I am so happy to be a part of your child’s
education. This is my eleventh year at CR: however, I
have been
teaching English for seventeen years, including English
as a second language, SAT preparation courses, and literature
at the university level. The last ten years were very
rewarding, and I look forward to a great experience this
year as well. The last several summers I have taken numerous
graduate courses and now have a master’s degree
plus 30 credits. This past summer I attended the conference
of the International Thespian Society in Lincoln, NE,
with eighteen students from the theatre club. I followed
that by a combination vacation/literary adventure by
traveling to the Williamsburg/Yorktown/Jamestown historic
triangle and viewing some of the actual documents we
study in class. So exciting! I am writing to ask for your
help in introducing me to your son or daughter and providing
me with any information
that you consider important for me to know about him
or her. Would you take a moment to write to me about
your teenager? This can be accomplished in one of three
ways. You can write me a letter or fill out the form
included with this letter and send it to my attention
at the school or e-mail the answers to me at mh@millerhosey.com.
If you prefer to answer on-line, feel free to go to my
Web site at www.millerhosey.com; there is a form that
you can easily complete under the title “parents.” I
am happy to read whatever you send and look forward to
learning more about your child. Some parents have expressed
to me in the past that they feel uncomfortable or uneasy
about writing to an English teacher. It sometimes brings
back bad memories! I want to assure you that I shall
not be “grading” your writing. It is the
content of the information that you provide that is most
important, not the mechanics. Although I will hold my
students accountable for grammar and spelling, the same
is not true for your “assignment.”
Thank you
for taking the time to respond and helping me provide
the best possible education for your teenager.
If at any time I can be of assistance to you or your
son or daughter, please DO NOT HESITATE to call or
e-mail me. If there is a problem, it is better to contact
me
sooner rather than later. You may follow our schedule
by going to the Web site and clicking on the course
in which your child is enrolled; you will also find other
very helpful information there. I hope to see you at
Back to School Night on September 16 at 7 PM. I look
forward to a great year! Respectfully,
Sheryl L. Miller
